CEO Spotlight Interview
Voice AI Agents for Clinical & Administrative Healthcare Calls
Ankit Jain, CEO & Co-Founder, Infinitus
Co-Founder Background
Ankit Jain grew up in the Bay Area after his family emigrated from India. With an entrepreneurial father as his model, he always saw himself building from the ground up. After grad school, he joined a search engine startup that was acquired by Google, where he worked until 2013, when he left to launch his first startup as a founder. He later returned to Google, where he founded its AI-focused venture capital fund, Gradient Ventures. In 2018, he was there when the company demoed its Duplex technology, which could automate phone calls — and it was almost immediately clear that the technology could have a far greater impact than making restaurant reservations. In 2019, Infinitus was born.
“It was very clear, almost right away, that this incredible tech could have a far greater impact than making restaurant reservations.”
The Founding of Infinitus
Infinitus was born in 2019 from a moment of clarity at Google. When the company demoed its Duplex technology — capable of automating phone calls — Ankit Jain saw something bigger than its intended use case. Healthcare, one of the most communication-intensive industries in the world, was still running on manual phone calls, siloed data, and inconsistent workflows. The opportunity was obvious: apply voice AI where the stakes were highest. Drawing on his background founding Gradient Ventures and his experience as a first-time founder, Ankit set out to build an agentic healthcare communications platform that could finally fix how patients, providers, and payors talk to each other.
“In 2018, it was very clear that this incredible tech could have a far greater impact than making restaurant reservations — and in 2019, Infinitus was born.”
The Problems Being Solved with Voice AI
In the US, receiving healthcare depends on who has the information. But that transfer of information is far more complicated than it might first appear — the data is siloed, hard to find, and often can only be communicated by phone call. Infinitus uses AI to automate high-stakes communication workflows between patients, providers, and payors. Examples include answering patients' questions about diagnoses or medications regardless of time or day, performing health risk assessments for high-risk patient populations on behalf of Medicare plans, and calling payors to complete complex benefit verifications for life-saving specialty medications.
“These are all communication workflows that need to happen — but today, they're either happening manually, inconsistently, or not happening at all.”
By streamlining that information transfer with AI, Infinitus saves time and money while ensuring critical workflows don't fall through the cracks. The platform is built for the highest-stakes moments in healthcare communications — the calls that determine whether a patient gets access to the medication or care they need. What was once manual, slow, and inconsistent becomes automated, reliable, and always on.
A Future-Forward Partnership: Infinitus and Tau Ventures
The Tau Ventures team has built a network of incredible practitioners, mentors, and industry experts, and collaborating with them has been enlightening for the entire Infinitus team. The partnership has been a valuable way to learn more about healthcare areas the team was less familiar with — and has also proven to be a great source of talent as Infinitus continues to aggressively build out its team.
